Cut Energy Costs at Home

1.Make sure your thermostat is programmed. Turn the heat down when no one is at home.

2.Replace fifteen year old furnaces and boilers with newer and energy efficient models.

3. for cooler weather, make sure the house is sealed properly. Keep fireplace dampers closed.

4.For warmer weather, cool your house by opening windows and using energy saving compact bulbs which emit less heat.

5.Plant deciduous trees in your home to shade it from the heat.

1. Make sure your tires are inflated- Soft tires will only slow you down and will use up about 10% more gasoline.
2. See to it your engine is maintained- If your engine suffers from a reduced air supply, your gas supply will suffer as well. Make sure your air filters are changed regularly,
3. Take the smaller car when you can- If given the choice between 2 cars to take, always go for the smaller, lighter car. Little cars save more gas.
4. If you can avoid driving during rush hours- Even if you are sitting in traffic, the car in idle mode really gives your gas a beating!

There are easy ways to conserve gasoline. Here are some that I personally swear by and would like to share with all of you!

1.Slow down- Did you know that cutting your speed from 70 mph to 55 can make a gallon of gas last 15% longer? The place won’t disappear, so just slow down and enjoy the ride.

2. Unload junk and keep your car light- The lighter your car weighs, the less gas it consumes. Unload heavy items that may also be taking up space from your car.

3.Put your gears to neutral on a red light- This saves more gas than just stepping on the brakes. An added bonus is that your feet can relax a little too!

4.Avoid idling- If you keep your car idle, it consumes the same amount of energy as starting a car.

5.Consult!- Before you buy, do a little research on the internet on the most gas economical cars in the market.

1.Make sure your produce bags are only used for moist, small and loose fruits and veggies.

2.When presented with a choice, always pick the product that’s packaged in cans or glasses as picking up the plastic container kind. It’s easier to recycle glass again and again and cans are pretty easy to recycle as well!

3. Why not look for a multipurpose cleaner instead f getting different kinds for each material?

4.Support products that have green policies. Buy products made out of recyclable materials!

Do The Groceries and Cut Waste: Tips on How to Do It!

1.Stay away from single serving items- because when you add everything up, these require more packaging material per unit.

2.Buy juice concentrates- You can just use normal water at home and a pitcher you already have. You won’t need to get the plastic container that comes with normal juice!

3.Stray from disposable goods like plastic plates, utensils, lighters and plastic razors. They use up more plastic!

4.Carry your own canvas eco bag, so you don’t have to use paper or plastic bags.
