How To Make Organic Easter Egg Dyes
“Dyeing” for some wonderful color on your Easter eggs? It’s possible to make different hues using ordinary products! Here’s a quick tutorial on how to get these simple colors!
Red
You can use Pomegranate juice and lots of red onion skins. Maybe you can ask some from your local produce guy? Boil with the eggs for 1/2 to 1 hour. Red wines without the vinegar are also a good alternative.
Pink
Grated beets, cranberries or cranberry juice, raspberries, grape juice, juice from pickled beets, crushed red currants can all be used to get a rosy hue.
Violet- blue
Soak eggs overnight in hot water with some crushed violet, pansy or geranium blossoms.
Blue and Lavender
Try using purple pansies, violets, or grape juice. For a darker shades, go for frozen, fresh or canned blueberries, blackberries with their juice.
Yellow or Gold
Boil Orange or lemon peels , carrot tops , celery seed , ground cumin , ground turmeric. Note that these aren’t to be boiled all together! You can boil any one of these ingredients! If you want to utilize turmeric, add 1-2 tsps of the ir and 1 sp white vinegar to a cup of hot water.
Green
Add 1/4 teaspoon baking soda to a bowl of “violet blue” colored water before soaking the eggs. Try soaking the eggs in boiled spinach water or liquid chlorophyll (available at natural food stores).
Brown
Use a mixture of 3 tablespoons instant coffee and 1/2 teaspoon vinegar with some hot water. Boiled back walnuts shells will also result in a nice brown shade.
