The Downside on Hybrids

Everybody keeps on talking about hybrid cars and how good they are for the environment. You may also be thinking of investing in one. However, while its always good to be informed of the upside, it may be a better idea to be aware of the downside too. After all, nthing is perfect, and we need to be realistic with out expectations on the hybrid car.

1.It’s expensive- Because there’s a whole lot of new technology that comes with creating these cars, they may come out pricier than an average car. However, the cost does offset itself in the fuel savings in the long run.

2.Potentially dangerous- If caught in a potential car crash or accident, a hybrid car battery which is a metal hydride battery can kill a person if they were exposed to it during the accident due to the high voltages.

3.Constant recharging needed- Older models of hybrid cars need to be recharged every 2 weeks. This could pose a problem if you’re going on a long trip and a charger may not be readily available.

4.A bigger carbon footprint- some studies have indicated that the pollution produced in creating a hybrid car is more compared to a normal car. They site the twin engines a the reason.

3 Very Simple Ways to Conserve Energy

1. It can never be said enough! Turn off lights as you leave the room! Also, avoid using more lights than necessary!

2. Keeping a car running emits more pollutants compared to just restarting it! If you’re stopped for more than a minute, why not just turn off the engine?! Tell other people to do this too! Many parents actually waste much gas because they idle in car-pool lanes for 20 minutes

3.Program your computer to go on sleep mode if its been left idle for more than 30 minutes. The sleep mode saves 90% of energy! You can also fully unplug them if not in use!

Save Up On Gas

With the high gasoline prices, everyone can sure use a tip or two on how to make gasoline last longer! Here are some of my tried and tested methods!

1.    Don’t gas up in the middle of the day. Because it’s hotter, more gasoline evaporates into the air.
2.    Try to find indoor parking, especially if you’ll be parking your car the whole day. If your car is parked outdoors, the hot blaze of the sun will make the gasoline evaporate as well.
3.    Beating the red light actually uses and wastes more as. Try to go the same speed at all times. Sudden spurts use up more fuel.
4.    When you find yourself at a red light, don’t leave your car on drive mode while pressing the brakes, Instead, switch to neutral gear. This actually saves up more gas.
5.    Did you know that manual cars save up more gas then automatic cars? So if you’re thinking of getting a car, consider getting a manual one.
