US Cities Reduce Carbon Emissions

Environmental-oriented policies have helped greatly in reducing carbon emissions in most US cities. Lowest levels were reached in 2005 in the West Coast. However, the East Coasts still have a high level of emissions levels. In fact, it has been noted that they have the highest levels of emissions in the country.

In a comparative study done between the West Coast and the East Coasts, it was discovered that the West Coasts have significant benefits in their strict environmental policies, weather, and population density. Meanwhile, the East Coasts still relies on traditional energy sources which have high levels of carbon dioxide.

The West Coasts is also more concerned about their environment and a lot of alternative energy sources are being explored and implemented. In particular, California is popular for its strict environmental policies. This state has made a lot of effects in ensuring that it has renewable resources such as biodiesels, hydro-electricity, and solar energy.

A good example of this is Pacific Gas & Electric which already has a series of green projects. They can even produce natural gas from cow manure. The company has invested in solar energy as well. Their first functional plant is expected to be in operation by 2011.
