Cut Energy Costs at Home 2

1.Grill food outside rather than using the gas.

2.Hang wet clothing outside.

3.Install an energy efficient ceiling fan rather than us the air conditioner all the time.

4.Switch to a natural gas water heater. Make sure the setting is turned down to about 120 degrees.

5. Why not put up window awnings?!

Cut Gas Consumption Part 2

1. Make sure your tires are inflated- Soft tires will only slow you down and will use up about 10% more gasoline.
2. See to it your engine is maintained- If your engine suffers from a reduced air supply, your gas supply will suffer as well. Make sure your air filters are changed regularly,
3. Take the smaller car when you can- If given the choice between 2 cars to take, always go for the smaller, lighter car. Little cars save more gas.
4. If you can avoid driving during rush hours- Even if you are sitting in traffic, the car in idle mode really gives your gas a beating!
5. Consult websites like gasbuddy.com to help you find the cheapest gas in the are where you’re from!

Cut Gas Consumption

There are easy ways to conserve gasoline. Here are some that I personally swear by and would like to share with all of you!

1.Slow down- Did you know that cutting your speed from 70 mph to 55 can make a gallon of gas last 15% longer? The place won’t disappear, so just slow down and enjoy the ride.

2. Unload junk and keep your car light- The lighter your car weighs, the less gas it consumes. Unload heavy items that may also be taking up space from your car.

3.Put your gears to neutral on a red light- This saves more gas than just stepping on the brakes. An added bonus is that your feet can relax a little too!

4.Avoid idling- If you keep your car idle, it consumes the same amount of energy as starting a car.

5.Consult!- Before you buy, do a little research on the internet on the most gas economical cars in the market.

3 Very Simple Ways to Conserve Energy

1. It can never be said enough! Turn off lights as you leave the room! Also, avoid using more lights than necessary!

2. Keeping a car running emits more pollutants compared to just restarting it! If you’re stopped for more than a minute, why not just turn off the engine?! Tell other people to do this too! Many parents actually waste much gas because they idle in car-pool lanes for 20 minutes

3.Program your computer to go on sleep mode if its been left idle for more than 30 minutes. The sleep mode saves 90% of energy! You can also fully unplug them if not in use!

E85 Education

Many people, in the effort of saving money, are actually choosing to fill up their cars with E85 ethanol. Why not right? E85 is cheaper than normal gasoline. But is E85 good for our environment?

Unfortunately E85 isn’t very good for Mother Earth at all. It doesn’t burn cleanly, and produces toxins when burned. Also, E85 is made from corn. It seems to be unethical to destroy perfectly good food to produce cheap fuel when in fact many people don’t even have enough to eat! Thirdly, E85 just looks cheaper but actually, it contains a good percentage of less energy compared to gasoline, so you actually get less mileage!

It is important to consider all the aspects of something before using it. Sometimes, things are cheaper for a reason. Hopefully, this article will make you stop and think before sing E85!

Algae As Biofuel

The latest development on the search for a good biofuel to replace gasoline may lie in ordinary green algae!

Researchers have found that when they performed tests on algae, it performed as well as other biofuels and even surpassed diesel fuel!

Algae would be a good source for biofuel because it can grow fast and it doesn’t need land to grow in! It is also very simple to grow and even consumes carbon dioxide!

Some strains of algae have been found to contain high levels of oil. These are the starting materials to be used to create an effective biofuel. The oils would be extracted and then refined and they could be used as a potential fuel source!

Green Candidates

The election is fast approaching and one of the key issues for deciding on who to vote for is the candidates’ stand on the environment.

Among the two running for president, Obama has proven to be the greener candidate in his speeches. It is a delight to know that his running mate Joe Biden has a good track record with the environment as well.

Joe Biden supports the 80% carbon emission deduction by the year 2008. He also wants to give the tax break from oil companies and use the money to pay for wind farms. Joe Biden has also always opposed offshore drilling for oil.

Other plans of Biden include the country using 20% of renewable energy sources by the year 2020. He also believes that the US should be firmer in the stand to stop commercial whaling.

These and many more reasons make Joe Biden an ideal candidate to select. So if you want to help your environment, take care in selecting lawmakers that care for it too!

How to Successfully Carpool

It has been mentioned in this site many times that car-pooling is one of the best ways to conserve gas and energy. Not only that, it is great way to make friends in school or in h work place, and to relieve stress caused from driving. Imagine, instead of driving everyday, it can be cut down in half or even les in some instances!

However, carpooling can be tricky and in order to help you maneuver your way around, we’ve compiled some simple tips to successful carpooling!

1. First, it is vital to determine your route and schedule. Establish clear pick-up points and meet-up places.

2.Don’t forget to make a clear schedule of driving responsibilities and distribute it to everyone concerned. You may choose to alternate daily, weekly or even monthly.

4.Respect your fellow carpool members. Be punctual!

5.As a group, agree on certain rules like how many minutes the driver has to wait.

More Ways to Conserve Energy

1.    Have you considered investing in shades or curtains? These can keep the cold and heat out.
2.    Check the temperature of your water heater? If you’ve found yourself burnt one too many times, it might be because it’s turned up too high.
3.    Is it time to change your appliances? Older models generally use up more energy than the newer ones.
4.    How about having your electricity company come and inspect your house. They’ll be able to tell you which areas and gadgets are eating up too much energy. After that, you’ll have a better idea of what to get rid of.
5.    Consider replacing steady lights with those equipped with motion sensors. You’ll cut energy usage by about ¾.

Bring Back The Bike Lanes!

Biking is certainly an enjoyable activity, not to mention green and fitness friendly to boot! It is a cost-effective solution to beating traffic as well. However, so many people do not even consider biking to get to short distances.

Why? Because of the absence of bike lanes. Many communities and neighborhoods across the country do not have bike lines. This reason prevents them to consider getting a bike to get them to school or work. A street without bike lanes can be very dangerous to bikers! We do not want them to get into road accidents.

You can make a difference to bring bike lanes back! Get your friends together, and write letters to your local officials. You can even start a petition. These little steps will eventually bring back bike lanes into our community!
